Over 200 kendoka from across the country gathered at the Gameville Ball Park, Greenfields District, Mandaluyong City last October 25–26, 2025 for the 7th Philippine National Kendo Tournament (PNKT), hosted by the United Kendo Federation of the Philippines (UKFP).

The two-day event featured both a shinsa (grading examination) and a shiai (tournament), marking one of the largest and most vibrant kendo gatherings in the nation to date.

Record-Breaking Shinsa

The PNKT opened on the morning of October 25 with the official UKFP shinsa, offering kyu ranks (6th to 1st Kyu) and dan ranks (1st to 4th Dan).

A total of 110 kendoka registered, making it the largest grading examination  ever conducted by the UKFP.

Shinsa Results:

6th Kyu – 7 of 9 passed (2 absences)

5th Kyu – 2 of 2 passed

4th Kyu – 4 of 4 passed

3rd Kyu – 18 of 18 passed

1st Kyu – 29 of 36 passed (6 awarded 2nd Kyu, 1 awarded 3rd Kyu)

1st Dan – 21 of 21 passed

2nd Dan – 7 of 10 passed

3rd Dan – 2 of 5 passed

4th Dan – 2 of 4 passed

The consistently high pass rates were credited to the dedication of practitioners and the steady growth of quality instruction among UKFP-affiliated clubs.

The shiai (tournament) began in the afternoon of October 25 following the opening ceremonies, which were graced by His Excellency Endo Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, and Mr. Matsuda Shigehiro, Director of the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC).
